Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Sportlogia is committed to ensuring the highest standards of publication ethics. The journal follows the principles and best practice guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, and reviewers—must agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior.

Responsibilities of Editors

Fair Play: The editor evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality: The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.

Conflict of Interest: Editors shall recuse themselves from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the papers.

Publication Decisions: The editor is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published, based on the validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and may also assist the author in improving the paper.

Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.

Responsibilities of Authors

Reporting Standards: Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance.

Originality and Plagiarism: The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Sportlogia uses specialized software Turnitin to screen for plagiarism.

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication: An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication.

Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.

Dealing with Unethical Behavior

In cases of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, or plagiarism, the publisher, in close collaboration with the editors, will take all appropriate measures to clarify the situation and to amend the article in question. This includes the prompt publication of an erratum, clarification or, in the most severe cases, the retraction of the affected work in accordance with the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

AI Policy: Use of Generative AI in Scientific Writing

Sportlogia follows the ethical standards for the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scholarly publishing as established by Elsevier and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authorship and Accountability

AI cannot be listed as an author: Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT) do not meet the criteria for authorship as they cannot take responsibility for the integrity, originality, and validity of the research.

Human oversight is mandatory: AI tools must only be used as a support to improve the language, readability, and efficiency of the writing process. They must never replace human critical thinking, data interpretation, or scientific evaluation. Authors are 100% accountable for the final content of their work.

Disclosure Requirements

Mandatory Declaration: If authors use AI tools for manuscript preparation, they must disclose this in a separate statement upon submission. Basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, or punctuation do not require declaration.

AI in Research Methods: If AI was used as part of the research methodology (e.g., for data analysis or modeling), this must be described in detail within the Methods section of the manuscript.

Images and Figures: The use of generative AI to create or alter scientific images, figures, or artwork is strictly prohibited by Sportlogia in accordance with Elsevier’s policy.

Declaration Template

Authors must insert the following statement at the end of their manuscript (before the Reference list), under the title "Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process":

"During the preparation of this work the author(s) used in order to. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication."
